Client Testimonials
Zulkarnain Azhari
Operations Manager, Selangor — Precision Electronics Importer
"We had a dispute with JKDM over the classification of certain electronic components we import. Gemilang Trade reviewed the classification thoroughly and prepared a written opinion that was well-structured and clearly referenced the interpretive rules. The issue was resolved within the expected timeframe."
February 2026 — Customs Classification Advisory
Lim Wei Ling
Director, Penang — Furniture Manufacturer
"We export furniture to Japan, Australia, and the UK and had never properly assessed our eligibility under the various FTAs. The trade flow analysis Gemilang Trade carried out identified meaningful preferential tariff options we were simply not accessing. The implementation plan made the transition manageable."
January 2026 — FTA Compliance Advisory
Rajan Navaratnam
Compliance Officer, Kuala Lumpur — Defense Sector Supplier
"The Strategic Trade Act advisory was detailed and genuinely useful. The team understood the specific goods we deal in and the jurisdictions we operate in. The compliance programme they developed is structured enough that we can actually use it day-to-day — it is not just a document that sits on a shelf."
March 2026 — Trade Sanctions & Export Control Advisory
Nurul Atiqah
Logistics Manager, Johor — Consumer Goods Importer
"What I appreciated was the clarity of the written opinion. It did not just give us the classification answer — it explained the reasoning in language that I could share with our customs broker and our finance team. The follow-up questions I had were answered promptly."
February 2026 — Customs Classification Advisory
Tan Hui Min
Managing Director, Sarawak — Agricultural Exporter
"We export processed agricultural goods to several RCEP partner countries. The engagement confirmed which of our products qualify for preferential rates under different agreements and what documentation we need to maintain. It has given us more confidence in how we approach our export pricing."
January 2026 — FTA Compliance Advisory
Mohamad Faris
Trade Compliance Lead, Selangor — Technology Exporter
"Our industry carries real strategic trade obligations that we were not managing as systematically as we should have been. The engagement covered the STA screening process, the specific goods we handle, and put together a policy framework that our team could actually implement. The training session was straightforward and practical."

Client Engagements in Detail
Composite Material Classification — Electronics Manufacturer
Customs Classification & Tariff Advisory
Challenge
A Penang-based electronics manufacturer needed classification opinions for three novel composite material components imported from China. JKDM had queried the company's prior classification, creating uncertainty over duty rates and potential retrospective liability.
Advisory Provided
Gemilang Trade carried out a component-by-component analysis under the relevant tariff chapters, applying the General Interpretive Rules and current JKDM classification practice. Three written opinions were delivered within ten business days, addressing each component separately with supporting technical reasoning.
Outcome
The written opinions supported the client's response to JKDM, confirming the classification positions across all three components. No retrospective duty adjustment was required. The client now maintains consistent classification practices with reference to the advisory documentation.

CPTPP Origin Analysis — Automotive Parts Manufacturer
Trade Agreement & FTA Compliance
Challenge
A Shah Alam automotive components manufacturer exported parts to Japan and Canada but had not formally assessed CPTPP eligibility. The company believed some of their product lines might qualify but lacked the rules of origin knowledge to confirm this or prepare appropriate documentation.
Advisory Provided
Gemilang Trade mapped the client's supply chain inputs against the CPTPP product-specific rules for the relevant HS headings, addressing both the tariff shift test and the regional value content requirement. A compliance implementation plan covering certificate of origin procedures was included in the deliverable.
Outcome
Six product lines were confirmed as eligible for CPTPP preferential treatment. The client began issuing certificates of origin for these lines within three weeks of receiving the advisory, accessing reduced duty rates on exports to both Japan and Canada. Estimated annual tariff savings were material relative to the advisory investment.

STA Compliance Programme — Dual-Use Technology Exporter
Trade Sanctions & Export Control Advisory
Challenge
A Kuala Lumpur technology company exporting dual-use measurement equipment needed a structured compliance framework for the Strategic Trade Act 2010. The company was growing its export sales into regions with heightened regulatory sensitivity and recognised that an ad hoc approach to compliance was no longer adequate.
Advisory Provided
Gemilang Trade conducted a controlled goods audit of the product range, mapped the applicable STA schedules and export permit requirements, and developed a written internal compliance programme including screening procedures, record-keeping protocols, and escalation processes. A half-day staff training session was delivered to the sales and logistics teams.
Outcome
The company implemented the compliance programme and made necessary permit applications for two product lines that had not previously been controlled. Staff capacity to apply the screening procedures independently was established. The company subsequently passed an external compliance review by a major customer's supply chain team.
